Take in the luxuries and comfort of this vessel from the Oceanic Lines while crossing the great North Atlantic. Although it may not be very large, with three classes and crew spaces to explore it certainly won't be no tender!

History:

The R.M.S. Maddenten built in 1908 by Cherford Shiping Firm of Liverpool and owned by Oceanic Lines of Bristol. She was in the Brighten class of ships with the first one being built in 1906. The Maddenten quickly became popular with celebrities and the old money with its extravagant public spaces in first class and being comfortable with its smaller size and less passengers. Third class was also popular with immigrants with its separate cabins instead of large dormitories. She would be a very successful ship in the transatlantic trade even carrying president of the United States, William Howard Taft in 1910 as well as many members of the royal family.

On the 18th of August, 1911, at 7:53pm, a day away from Southampton, the water in a boiler in boiler room No. 2 was suddenly lost by a complication with the feedwater system. This caused the boiler to heat up and explode igniting a scorching fire which managed to escape to the rest of the ship. By around 9:10 the ship capsized onto its side and became engulfed by both the fire and the sea leaving only a tower of steam. The wreck now sits on its side at the bottom of the English Channel after being discovered in 1957.

The other three ships of the Brighten class were fairly successful but had to have their boilers refitted after finding out that there was a fault made by the boiler manufacturer causing a massive scandal. The only other ship of the class that sank was the R.M.S. Hasten during World War I when serving as a troop transport.
